Fresh Start


It's been a looooooong time since I've been here.  I've been ignoring this space.  I've been busy with life-nothing grandiose.  Just the life of a wife, and mom to 4 growing kids.  
We finished updating the house, kids are all in school, and I'm on a routine. All is great!  Think I'm going to be back around here a little more often.   
Like Ferris Bueller once said, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."  And this little space helps me see the little things every day and appreciate them.

Flower Friday


Happy Friday!  So glad the weekend is upon us.  The little boys had their last day of preschool today and Tuesday the big kids are out for the summer.  The weather is beautiful and we are ready for our summer vacation to begin.   I picked up these gorgeous peonies at Whole Foods yesterday.  I am so happy they are in season.  I love having beautiful blooms on Friday in the kitchen.  It's one simple way to make me happy! We are busy with more baseball, softball and graduation parties this weekend.

Flower Friday

Starting this holiday weekend off with some freshly picked Lilies of the Valley. We have a nice shady spot the side of our house where these beauties pop-up every spring.  I am so happy these are in season-usually I pick them at the beginning of May but with our long winter and late spring they are just blooming now.  
This weekend we are off to a softball tournament and will be out enjoying the expected gorgeous weather.  Can't wait to soak up some warm sun!  Hope you all have a fantastic Friday!

Longer Lasting Blooms


Tis' the season for gorgeous blooms as well as my strong desire to hold onto each freshly cut bouquet.  It's so wonderful to bring a little outside in. A fresh bouquet brightens up any room and just makes me feel great!  My husby and kids gave me this tulip bouquet for Mother's Day-love them!!  I really try my best to extend the life of my flowers with some very simple tips.  
  • Always use room temperature water.
  • Cut the stems at an angle which creates a greater surface area for the water to enter the stem.
  • Keep leaves out of the water-leaves left on the bottom of the stems will begin to rot and contaminate the water.
  • Change the water every day.
  • Keep the blooms out of direct sunlight.
  • ***** Secret Tip:  If possible refrigerate bouquet at night.
  • Use flower food that often comes with the flowers.

Well just a couple more days til we leave for spring break!!!  It's been such a long winter I can't wait fora bit of fun and sun.  I try to pack basic pieces for myself and then accessorize with pops of color. It enables mixing and matching and less to bring in the big ole suitcase. Packing for a family of six can be a long process but when we're headed to the beach we don't need to bring much.  Swimsuits and sunscreen are at the top of my list!   Not only do I pack the bags for the fam but I must remember the entertainment for the trip itself. That's the fun of traveling with kids:) Check out these tips for traveling with kids.

Darling Daughter Spring Picks

This past week has been a blur of busyness.  Since my 93 year old grandmother passed away we had been trying to purchase last minute plane tickets to Florida during spring break season.  BTW that was no easy task.  We also were juggling husby's work and the boys school schedules so we could sneak away.  We figured it all out and made it happen-a girls trip for Caroline and I.  We left the boys home for a few days and jetted off to Florida and stayed with my mom for the services.  So nice to spend time with my only girl!!  Now, our spring break falls over Easter every year so we are still a few weeks away from a real vacation but we got a little taste of warm weather and tropical breezes-Just what we both needed after a long, cold winter.  It's time to think spring even though mother nature does not want to cooperate at home.  We are tired of the cold weather and want to brighten up our days with color. It's time for a closet overhaul for my daughter and  thoughts of warmer weather are the inspiration!  We must think spring and in a few weeks spring BREAK!! :)
